Mungamma

Suram Mungamma is a resident of the town of Chilakaluripet, and was converted about 16 years ago through the ministry of India for Christ. After converting from the Hindu faith, she immediately became a fervent worker for the Lord and is now supported as one of our Gospel Workers. She is a middle-aged woman, an elected M. P., and respected in the town.

One thing of note is her deep concern for the poor, neglected elderly people. India provides no assistance to these helpless people. If their family does take them in, they are helpless and may have to beg for food and seek a place to sleep. Mungamma has rented a building and taken in about 20 women and six men. She regards neither religious nor social background-- Hindu, Muslim, nominal Christian on without any connection. She brings them to church in a hired auto rickshaw. Many have become believers and a number have been baptized.

In her Old People’s Home, she provides food, clothing as necessary, and a safe place to sleep. Some have severe physical handicaps - deafness, blindness, one leg, other handicaps. Another elderly widow from Mangamma’s small congregation, Elizabeth, also serves as a Gospel Workers, resides there and ministers to the spiritual needs of the others. Mangamma has to believe the Lord to provide the necessities to care for these neglected people.
